CUSTOMER: Premier Warehousing and Distribution
LOCATION: Seven Hills, Sydney, New South Wales
BACKGROUND: Premier Warehousing and Distribution outgrew its previous facility and moved to Seven Hills in Sydney’s western suburbs. A new 4500m2 building was constructed on the site with emphasis on building height.
STORAGE REQUIREMENTS: As a third-party service provider, Premier’s business is the storage and distribution of goods on behalf of customers, This new facility was also designed to include a state-of-the-art computerised inventory control system.
Premier had previously engaged Storage Ideas to provide its expertise and was happy to do so again. The combined resources of both organisations were brought together to design this new facility ensuring the design met the requirements of Premier’s diverse customer base, whilst ensuring the facility layout was flexible enough to meet the needs of new customers.

2. Our Storage Solution

Selective Pallet Racking six levels (7.5m) high, capable of carrying 1000kg pallet loads were installed in the facility, providing a total storage capacity of 3200 pallet positions and more than doubling the previous capacity.

Space efficiency is maximised through the use of electric reach trucks in 2.9m wide aisles. Carefully positioned drive-through cross aisles were designed with storage above to maximise use of all available space, whilst not affecting access or operational functionality. Storage Ideas was also commissioned to install chain wire fences and sliding gates in the warehouse to create a secure area for high value items.

3. Customer Benefits

The investment in this new facility and inventory control system combined with expert advice relating to storage and materials handling equipment has provided Premier with a growth plan for up to 10 years.

Selective Pallet Rack

The most common method of storing pallets of goods is Selective Pallet Racking.

Selective Pallet Rack provides ready access to every pallet and can be serviced by virtually any type of forklift including counterbalanced forklifts, reach and turret trucks.

It is ideal for storing a large number of lines of relatively low volumes..

Key features of Selective Pallet Racking include:

  • Immediate access to any pallet
  • Lowest cost racking system
  • Versatile and easily reconfigured
  • Suitable for order picking
  • Enables stock rotation.

Because it requires wider aisles than other types of storage systems, Selective Pallet Racking provides the lowest use of the available cube, typically utilising around 30% of the available floorspace.
